racing the rain clouds

If you already knew, it is the rainy season over here in Japan . But I'm not going to let the rain dampen my spirits! Let you know, I can smell rain. I can predict what time it will rain just by smelling and looking at the clouds. So today after yamaha, I rode the bicycle to this Bivi mall, just to let Rey shake hands with Pikachu. By the way, Rey has not watched any teeny weeny bit of the yellow monster episode. He's not very fascinated by it (yet). SO when it's was our turn to shake hands with Pikachu, Rey just refused to move forward. And he said it'd have been MUCH better to shake hands with Ultraman instead. I told him Ultraman is still fighting the Barutan-alien to protect our blue planet earth.

"Ei, I cycled ALL the way here just to take this photo?" I grumbled to Rey.

R: I was shy, ok?

Our next destination was a modern Japanese sweet cafe called Ochaya, 15 minutes ride away from where we were, at the other direction. The rain clouds are looming overhead already but I still didn't smell the rain.

While waiting, Rey was quite hyperactive. He sang off-tuned yamaha melodies on purpose. I was glad no one heard him because everyone else, mostly females, was chatting so loudly.

Guess how much the bill was? It was supposed to be 1280yen BUT with coupons for both of us, the final price was 618yen ONLY!! whaaa hahaha, NOW you know why I came here in the 1st place? The due date for the coupons is tomorrow (confirm will rain the whole day!). Call me a cheapskate if you dare, I'll smack you!

Rey was writing yet another letter to his girlfriend. See the many hearts he drew? So sweet.

How do you manage your stress?
shop, dance, karaoke, or eat till you drop? For me, sleeping helps. I spend less time for negative thoughts and by the time I wake up I'll forget what the stress was all about. This is how forgetful I can be! But the most useful method for me, is to vacuum the entire house. The treasured household item is my vacuum cleaner. The moment I ON the vacuum cleaner, the thought of dust being sucked into the machine is so good. I love walking on squeaky clean floor just after vacuuming. ok, going to brush the bathroom for now.

I: Hey, do you know that this is the zoo where the zookeeper got bitten by the tiger and died?
R: Yes, mum. I know!! You have told me 100 times already! (looking like an annoyed teenager)
I: whahahaha! (he really sounded like me when I was in my teens.)

I: Oh yah! ok, bring the book to me then.

R: Did you put my short sleeve PE shirt too? I don't want the long sleeve one, it's too hot.

Nana is going to kill me for putting up the pictures. but hey, I got the permission from your mum! She is very lucky to be in 1 of the very rare water ballet teams in Singapore. Its a very good exposure for her since she got to perform for school events and in Sentosa. Recently they got 2nd prize in Macau in late May .Ganbare, little mermaids!

Went for an arts craft session at Rey's school. We made a welcome plate. Rey wanted an Ultraman of course, but I made him think of a second choice. So we made a rocket using dough. Don't say it's lousy. I swear I could have made a much better one if not for the time constraint (only 15 minutes!!). I wish I had more time to mix it into a more vibrant colored dough. Don't care, I'm going to make another one at home!

what a mess!

I got a shock when we entered the bedroom ready to sleep. It was in a mess and I didn't have any slight idea when Rey created this. I blew my top and made Rey fix everything back all by himself, pointing out to him that if he can create the mess, he has to be the one tidying up. Well, he did try to fix it, but was taking a long time looking for the right pieces because of the mess. See how pitiful he looks in the photos? He was actually very sleepy already. So, in the end, I have to help him anyway. He learnt his lesson.

Ultraman origami

Borrowed an origami book from the library that I think will help entertain Rey for the whole week. So Rey and I made this Ultraman origami together last night. Some ultraman with very bad fashion sense.... but anyway, I'm glad he could fold patiently through the whole session. We agreed to make a dinosaur tonight. And I'm practicing some magic tricks from a book too. Rey's going to think he's mum is superb!

mama, look! there's a cockroach behind you!

We were waiting for our food to come when Rey shouted for all customers to hear, " Mama, look! There's a cockroach behind you!" I turned to see this small cockroach crawling to hide behind a poster. hmm... not a very clean restaurant. I became paranoid. I changed my seat, inspected under the table and chairs to see if there are more crawling insects. All this while, Rey was screaming, "Mum, kill it! If not it'll fly to your food later." I'm not afraid of cockroaches actually. I was more concerned about how hygienically the food is being handled and why should I help to the restaurant to terminate their own bugs anyway?
I: I don't want to dirty my hands, you ask the waiter to do it. (hoping that Rey will just forget aout it)
R: Then let me do it!
I: Aiyah, never mind. It's just a cockroach. It's not in our house anyway.

Rey was still protesting when the waiter came minutes later. Just after he spread our food on the table, Rey complained to him that a cockroach is behind the poster and that he would like to see it being killed. So, in the end, I have to witness the execution done right before me. Rey was very satisfied while I have to avoid the spot where the cockroach was squashed. No appetitie liao.

Dental Ranger

Went to this dental care event and we got 3 tubes of toothpaste in the end when we answered some simple questions. There was also this show about Dental Ranger coming to the rescue when the girl and bear were attacked by some bacteria-men (the black ones). Some children even cried when they saw the sweet girl being attacked.

Remember me talking about how 'active' the tiger at the zoo was during my last visit? Well, that tiger mauled a zookeeper to death just yesterday! It's the same zoo that Rey and his school visited last week too. Anyway, Kyoto has only 1 zoo. It was reported that he forgot to lock the door and the tiger sneaked into the area where the man was cleaning. Very tragic. The zoo was closed when we passed by yesterday.

lucky or what?

I was walking along the corridor when I heard a big "CLANK!" sound behind me. I turned around and then I saw this.... !!! the light cover! It fell from the ceiling and just missed me by 2 steps. Whaa!! Lucky it's not Rey walking, lucky I walked faster, lucky it didn't drop in front of me if not I'd have died from fright. Now the light looks like this ...

Before we went for yamaha, I warned him repeatedly and he knew very well the consequences of behaving like a monkey again. writing 20 lines of rules, dealing with an angry mama for the whole day, no outing after yamaha etc. The result: he behaved EXTREMELY well and even the teacher praised him for being good. I can't believe rule writing can be that effective. Old school teacher method really works!

Months of enticing him to play with his lego set, he finally shows some interest.

If only there is a child washing machine....

making slime

The weekly International Kids Club organized a slime making activity. It was fun and we were able to make slime quite easily. The main ingredient we used was borax powder which can pose dangers (diarrhoea, vomit, rashes, even death) to children if consumed. I don't even want to touch it again! So no slime making at home, dear.

Summer is here. Patiently waiting for the Gion festival to come in July. No more goldfish fishing this year. For your info, most of the fry has died naturally. Competition for food is just too harsh for the 300 fry. Only the strongest survive. For now, the 100 or more fish is just manageable.
