bits and pieces

At a bakery, Rey refused to go when I called him several times.
I: Do you want to buy the swiss rolls?
R: No, mum. But I think there is a mistake. You see, it says "1 for 70 cents, 3 for $2".
Why? It should be "3 for $2.10" right?
And so I have to explain some sales tactic to him.
-----------------------------
I guess Rey was observing me today when I inquired about discounts for a toy, and later a dress.
(queueing at the entrance of a dressing room where the ladies' husbands were waiting for their darling wives to try out new dresses)
R: Mum, why do you like DISCOUNTS so much?
-----------------------------
We were talking about "perfection" about why people can never be perfect and why we can say someone did a 'perfect' job or score 'perfect marks' for a test.

R: I know, people who are perfect are 'Perfect-tional' right?
I: Eerr, that is "Professional" dear.
And then the chit-chat goes on about "the pros and cons of being a perfectionist" and meaning of 'professional".

alien language

einis sein ineis ni nisie
sine ni in sain sinain

See the words above? I was first quite amazed by one of my students' self-made language when I marked his composition. He can write 2 pages of such alien words as if such language really existed. One other teacher commented that she has an "Italian" in her class.
Yesterday, however, when I had to mark this boy's 6 pages worksheet, my volcano erupted.
I : You! Come here! Are you from Mars?
boy: No
I : Then you must be from Jupiter, right?
boy: No.
I : but you always write alien langugae? You think I am a genius? You think I can read your alien language? You want to waste this paper and my time? Do you want me to show this to everyone in your class? Go and erase everything now, no recess unless you have finished, and if I ever see this alien language again, I'm going to make you pay for the paper and I will surely send you to Mars!
sigh. I talked to his mother about it and even commented that his 'alien language is so consistent that I was quite impressed, really.

I eat to ...

I have noticed that Rey spends exactly all of his $2 pocket money without leaving a single cent.

I: Rey, I am very curious. How did you manage to spend all the money everyday?
R: Oh well, I buy 6 30-cent sushi, and then spend 1 20-cent on seaweed. Sometimes, I eat less sushi so I can buy my drink. I always calculate before I buy. *grin*
I: (quite impressed with his calculation but pissed off with his spending) But you need to save some money right? Your froggy (piggy bank) is hungry.
R: I eat alot so I can hibernate you know. I need to store alot of food in my body!
I: Whaa. You go to school to eat or study?
R: To eat and then hibernate. Can you give me $10 so I can hibernate faster?
I: No need. you always hibernate when I ask you to study!
